Xiaohe Smart Construction & Operations Headquarters — Building A
A nationally pioneering near-zero energy office in Shanxi, where GFRPU (glass fiber reinforced polyurethane) FG95 series passive windows and China's first prefabricated composite external wall system set a new benchmark for commercial construction.
Project Background
The Xiaohe Smart Construction and Operations Headquarters Building A is a landmark commercial office project in Shanxi Province, designed and built to near-zero energy consumption standards. As one of China's earliest large-scale office buildings to pursue this level of performance, every element of its building envelope was required to function as an integrated high-performance system.
Beyond its energy credentials, the project is distinguished by a nationwide first: a fully prefabricated composite external wall system that integrates insulation, fire safety, and airtightness in a single, rapidly assembled assembly.
FG95 series GFRPU passive windows — configured with triple glazing and dual cavities — achieve a whole-window U-value of just 0.8 W/m²·K, meeting the most demanding passive house standards for office buildings in cold-climate northern China.
GFRPU FG95 Passive Windows
The FG95 series is a high-performance passive house window and door system built on GFRPU pultruded profiles — combining inherently low thermal conductivity with the structural rigidity required for large commercial-format units. The triple-glazed, dual-cavity configuration achieves the stringent 0.8 W/m²·K U-value demanded by the near-zero energy brief.
The FG95 system also integrates certified fire resistance alongside its insulation performance, removing the need for separate fire-rated framing and simplifying the overall facade specification — a decisive advantage on a project of this complexity.
Prefabricated Composite Wall System
The project's external envelope features a nationally pioneering prefabricated composite wall system — the first of its kind in China — delivering near-zero energy performance through rapid off-site manufactured assembly.
This composite system delivers fire protection, thermal insulation, and a fully continuous airtight layer within a single prefabricated assembly — reducing on-site labour and quality variance versus conventional layered build-up methods.

Why GFRPU for a Near-Zero Energy Office?
A Nationally Pioneering Project
Building A of the Xiaohe Smart Headquarters represents a genuine milestone: the first project in China to combine GFRPU passive windows with a fully prefabricated composite external wall system to achieve near-zero energy certification.
Completed in 2018, the project has since served as a reference for high-performance office construction in northern China, where heating demands are severe and the performance gap between standard and passive-grade envelopes is most consequential.
